WHO Chief slams U.S. accusation of bias
The President Trump’s administration right from the very outset of the COVID-19 has been asserting that the WHO is biased towards China and the body has mismanaged their response towards dealing the pandemic . Also The President in his recent letter to the Head of The WHO mentioned that the Organization is too close to China and has failed in its objective and in its commitment to transparency . The President also paused financing or funding the UN and began to withdraw the US from UN Agency , while calling the The Chief of WHO Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus “A marionette of China” .
Endorsing Trump's charges against the WHO chief, Mike Pompeo, the US secretary of State said the Health officials have found a ground with China that has swayed the body’s decision.
Pompeo told a confab of Parliamentarians in London on Tuesday that the WHO had become a 'Political' body alleging that it’s decision were persuaded by a happy medium found between the WHO chief and China, that helped him become a body’s head .
Addressing the allegations, the WHO head has called it as “unacceptable and untrue and without any foundation for the matter", in response to a question at a Geneva briefing . Adding to that Mr. Tedros said there is “no corroboration , the sole aim of the Institution is on extricating the lives . WHO will not be bemused by these comments and we don’t want the international community also to be diverted.” He also said one of the greatest peril in the prevailing crisis is the ‘Politicization of the Pandemic.’
Mike Pompeo quoted that – “When push came to shove , when it really matters the most , people died , because of the deal made.”
WHO COVID 19 Technical Head also pushed back against the charges hurled against the UN Agency .
Tedro , in Thursday’s News Conference also stressed the importance of individual responsibility in the global bid to health in stopping the spread of virus and protecting each other lives .
The Chief also stated that a WHO advance team has been in China for nearly 2 weeks organizing a WHO led intramural mission to inspect the provenance of the virus.
