PM Modi launches 'Atma Nirbhar UP Rozgar Abhiyan' - A Complete Report of this new Initiative

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched a new 125-day campaign on 26th June, under several central schemes, to provide employment for the migrant workers in Uttar Pradesh who have lost their jobs during the lockdown concerning the pandemic. Atma Nirbhar Rozgar Abhiyan scheme has been inaugurated virtually in the presence of the state’s chief minister Yogi Adityanath. This scheme seeks to foster local entrepreneurship and partnership with various industrial firms to provide over 1.25 crore employment opportunities for people in 31 districts of the state which have reported more than 25,000 returnee migrant workers. This scheme is linked with the central scheme “Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan” which is expected to double the pace of execution in the state. Further, the Prime Minister has interacted with villagers from six districts who were connected by the several Krishi Vigyan Kendras around the state. Moreover, the PM has compared the UP with four other countries (UK, Italy, Spain, and France), mentioning that UP has only reported 600 deaths whereas these countries have had around 1.3 lakh deaths due to COVID 19.


Key points about the UP scheme:


This scheme includes work to be given to 60 lakh workers per day and 10.06 crore man-days will be created under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme


The inauguration ceremony has marked distribution of the loan amount of 5900 crore Indian Rupees to over 2.4 lakh industrial units and 3,226 crore Indian Rupees to 1.11 lakh new industrial units, providing a huge entrepreneurial opportunity for the citizens of the state


Also, toolkits were circulated to over 5,000 workmen. These workers consist of ironsmiths, tailors, hairdressers, carpet weavers, soap makers, tanners, and textile workers.
